In response to media inquiries about individuals who participate in Islamic Thinkers Society events The Islamic Thinkers Society (ITS) would like to make a press statement regarding the recent arrests of individuals whom the media are trying to associate with ITS.
We, the Islamic Thinkers Society, would like to formally state that when Islamic Thinkers Society (ITS) holds public events, individuals who are not part of ITS attend them , as the events cater to their interest. This however does not mean these individuals are members of ITS, although they maybe holding placards, signs, posters or even giving out a flier with the Islamic Thinkers Society logo on it. It simply means these individuals agree with those particular statements appearing on our materials.
Our events are entirely public and at times we attend public events organized by other individuals or groups. Although we meet people who may agree with the material that we brought to the demonstration or event, this does not mean these individuals are members of the Islamic Thinkers Society . Unfortunately CNN and other news agencies has made a poor attempt in trying to link The Islamic Thinkers Society with certain individuals who attended our rallies although they were not members of it. In the latest CNN tabloid regarding Islamic Thinkers Society it states:
“CNN has obtained an image of the two suspects, Mahmood Alessa and Carlos Eduardo Almonte, attending a protest in New York organized by the Islamic Thinkers Society on May 23 of this year. They appear to have been taking part in a demonstration against the annual Israel Day parade.”
First of all, the protest was not organized by Islamic Thinkers Society nor did it take place on May 23rd. This alone shows the CNN team are simply bigots with under qualified analytical skills.
CNN continues regurgitating their weak attempts by further stating:
“But counterterrorism officials say that the group… have come under scrutiny… for endorsing the actions of al Qaeda and other terrorist groups. The... groups often hold joint events.”
In response to this statement, we want to ask that if people around the world have been boycotting Israeli products, and all of a sudden “Al-Qaeda” makes a statement in their videos to boycott Israeli products, does that mean these individuals are endorsing this so-called group "Al-Qaeda"?
Generalizations such as these portrayed by the editorialized media are what keeps the society into having a stereotypical attitude towards people who may not agree with their political perspectives.
Time and time again, we stated that Islamic Thinkers Society is an Intellectual and Political non-violent organization that speaks up against tyranny and injustice. We do this by using our voice as a means to convey the message. We believe that in order to bring real change, we must try to change the way of thinking and not use physical force to accomplish a goal.
Allah the Greatest said:
“There is no compulsion in religion. Verily, the Right Path has become distinct from the wrong path.” [Quran 2:256]
And our Creator is a sufficient witness to the truth that we speak.
